Week One Introduction: It's Me, Chandler!

Hey Everyone,

I am so elated about this semester because I am graduating in May! There were so many nights and days that I thought I would never make it to graduation. I will graduate with a degree in Communication and minors in African-American Studies and NonProfit Organizational Studies.

As a freshman, I started with 25 concurrent enrollment hours and majoring in International Business and Marketing with a minor in Spanish. I was so convinced that that was the path that I should take in college, especially after making a 3.5 my first semester. I did not do so good the following semester because I was not motivated or passionate about my coursework. I hated going to class because it was just so boring. Long story short...I found what I something I was passionate about, which has lead me to present day.

I have had the opportunity to serve in many student organizations such as: Camp Crimson, Black Student Association, Sooners Helping Sooners, OU ConnectU, Sooner Promise, and many others. I have also had the chance to work in various offices on campus, my favorite was being a Tour Guide for the University! It was so exciting to see incoming students and be one of the first to share the loving OU family traditions and stories.

Today, I am focused on walking across the stage and finding my next step in life. I am so open to many possibilities as far as my career. I like to learn new things and don't want to limit myself. Also, I am narrowing down my graduate school options. I would like to move out of state some time soon but am waiting until I am financially stable.

Ummm...I like to read. I love going to Barnes & noble. I LOVE TO SHOP! If it's not on sale, I don't buy it. I am the saving queen. Family is really important to me. Also, I like to plan events. Its fun and allows me to be creative.

This is me.

  1. What a great Introduction post, Chandler! I am sure you are not alone in having made big changes over your time at OU, and I am so glad you ended up on a path of passion and enthusiasm! I started out as a math major when I was a freshman, but then switched to foreign languages, and that has led me to so many adventures over the years. And that is so cool about your non-profits major: how great that OU offers that as a program! I hope you can learn some good social media skills with the tools we use in this class since social media can be really powerful in the non-profit world! And if you love to read, oh, I hope you will enjoy some of the free books. It's one of my favorite things about the internet: SO MANY FREE BOOKS!!! :-)

  2. Chandler, I really enjoyed reading your introduction post. Making a 3.5 your first semester is great! It seems that you really enjoy your major now and have a great plan ahead for you. I am impressed with how involved you are on campus. That is great. I am sharing the same emotions about getting to graduate in May! I also am the exact same way with shopping. I love sales.

  3. Congrats on graduating in May! I also plan on graduating in May, and I am so excited for what the future holds. I'm so glad you found something you are passionate about. It truly makes all the difference in enjoying college and looking forward to the future. I think your nonprofit organizational minor sounds great! I am really interested in nonprofits, so I'm sure this is a really cool minor with some interesting courses. And that's so great that you are involved in so many organizations on campus; they all sound like such great clubs filled with great people. Good luck with this semester!

  4. Graduation! It’s almost here! I am also graduating in May. You have done quite a bit during your time at OU. I’m jealous. I worked a lot, so I didn’t have the schedule to get involved much. OU has some great clubs and organizations to get involved in (or so I’ve heard…). Keep reading and looking into grad schools! Congratulations!

  5. Congrats ahead of time on graduating in May! I'm hopefully going to be right there with you. It sounds like you were not only active in just schoolwork, but many organizations as well. That is quite an accomplishment. I, on the other hand, have just decided to work and go to school. I hope you accomplish everything you want and more this semester. Good luck!

  6. I came into my freshmen year with 25 hours too! I'm really glad I did too! It has definitely saved me a lot of time and money. I'm glad that you found a major that you really enjoy! I can't believe you have two minors too! That is so cool!! I'm kind of deciding on minoring in something but I don't know if I want to spend any more time school than I have to haha. It's really great that you were so involved on campus!!

  7. Hey, Chandler! It’s great to meet you. Congratulations on making it to your final semester and I wish you the best for your transition into the “real world.” As for your studies, I’m so glad that you found and chose to follow your heart and study what you want to. I am an RA and see too many freshmen studying things that they think they should rather than what they really want to.

  8. Congratulations on graduating in May. I’m glad you found something you were interested in because that is very hard to do for some people. If you love what you do, you will never work a day in your life. It’s also really good that you save your money. I have a lot of trouble doing that. It is nice to learn more about you and I look forward to reading more of your stories in the future.

  9. Hey, Chandler! Congrats on your (almost) graduation! As a junior I’m starting to get that feeling that I’m not going to make it through graduation, so good work on being one of the lucky ones who made it, haha. I’ve been reading in a lot of people’s introductions that they switched majors to find something they were more passionate about, and I’m so glad you were able to find that passion! I also love to read, and B&N is probably one of my top 3 stores, haha. Can’t wait to read more of your blog posts this semester!

  10. Hey Chandler! That is super awesome you get to graduate this semester. My roommate changed her major around a few times during two years and she is really behind and won’t be graduating on time. Also, props to you for being so involved with school life and giving back to the community. I went to camp crimson and loved it because the staff was so much fun and really awesome!

  11. Hi, Chandler! I can really relate to your situation. It took me a while to figure out what it was that I was passionate about. There have been several times where I've been so unmotivated because I was not interested in the courses I was taking at all. I will also be graduating in May! It's such an exciting time in our lives. I'm also weighing my options for graduate school and considering moving out of state at some point. I wish you luck in all your endeavors!

  12. Hey Chandler! It is nice to meet you. Wow starting off with 25 hours would be very difficult. I'm really glad you found something you can enjoy doing and even want to continue learning about in Grad School. I think it is wonderful that you are so involved at school. Also, I'm with you about buying things on sale. I really have to need something to buy it at full price.

  13. Chandler, I am so excited for graduation! I bet you are too. I can't believe we have reached the point of finally being able to graduate! I don't know if you know her or not but one of my g-littles is part of BSA and did the homecoming dance for them, Cherrish Abinah! She is awesome! And congrats on finding something that you are passionate about to continue schooling with. I know from experience that it can be hard to do.

  15. I thought I had read the intro to almost everyone, but I was wrong! It is nice to meet you and thanks for the super cool intro! I am minoring in Nonprofit Studies too! I had a lot of fun with that minor and I thought it was very beneficial. You seem to be super involved, that's awesome! I hope you have a great summer!

  16. That is awesome you were a tour guide! I am a tour guide right now, and I think it is the best job ever! I bet you are so ready to graduate, I am and I am only a junior lol. It is cool to see that you figured out what you were passionate about. A lot of people don’t switch majors even if they know they should, so I am glad you actually realized that and switched. Good luck in grad school and hope everything works out
